Built for Calgary winters

A fence or deck in Calgary deals with extreme freeze-thaw cycles, chinook winds, hail and dry summers — all in the same year. Builds that work in milder climates simply don’t survive here. Posts heave, deck boards cup, fasteners pop, and stains peel.

Every detail of how we build is tuned for Calgary: posts set below the frost line, gapping that accounts for shrinkage and expansion, hardware rated for treated lumber, and finishes selected for our intense UV. Our goal is a build that still looks great in year ten.

Fences we build

The most popular Calgary fence styles are 6 ft pressure-treated good-neighbour, horizontal cedar, and Hardie-board / metal-framed modern designs. We build all of them, plus pool-code-compliant fences, gates, and post-and-rail.

For most back-yard privacy fences we recommend pressure-treated lumber on a steel post system. It avoids the rot and warping issues that plague all-wood posts in Calgary clay, and gives you a fence that will outlast a typical wood-on-wood build by years.

Decks we build

We build everything from simple ground-level platforms to multi-level cedar decks with built-in benches, planters and privacy walls. Our most popular deck materials are western red cedar, pressure-treated SPF, and composite decking from brands like TimberTech and Trex.

For families planning to stay long-term, composite decking is hard to beat in Calgary — virtually no maintenance, no annual staining, and excellent resistance to fading and hail damage. For a more natural look, kiln-dried cedar with a quality penetrating stain is a beautiful choice.

Permits and inspections

Decks attached to a house, decks more than 24″ above grade, and certain fences in Calgary require building permits. We handle the entire permit process for you — including drawings, application and inspection coordination — so you don’t have to deal with the city.

We also book all required Alberta One-Call utility locates before any post digging happens. It’s included with every project.

Service area

We design and build fences and decks across Calgary and surrounding communities including Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks and Strathmore. Larger projects typically run 1–3 weeks from start to clean-up.

Fence & Deck Building — frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for my deck or fence in Calgary?+

Most decks attached to a house or higher than 24″ above grade need a permit. Fences over 6 ft generally need a permit, and front-yard fences have additional restrictions. We handle permits as part of the project so you don’t have to.

How long does a typical fence or deck project take?+

A standard back-yard fence is usually 2–4 days. A simple deck is 3–7 days. Multi-level cedar or composite decks with built-in features can run 2–3 weeks. Weather and permit timing can affect the schedule.

When is the best time of year to build in Calgary?+

May through October is the ideal window. We can build through early winter as long as we can dig posts, but extreme cold and frozen ground can delay starts. Booking early in the season locks in the best schedule.

Composite or cedar — which deck should I choose?+

Cedar gives you a beautiful natural look and lower upfront cost, but needs cleaning and staining every 2–3 years. Composite costs more upfront but is essentially maintenance-free for 20+ years and stands up better to Calgary hail. For most long-term homeowners we lean toward composite.

Do you offer financing?+

Yes, we partner with a Canadian financing provider for projects over $5,000. We can include payment options with your written quote.
